 Introduction - Heat Media pack


1) Look at the Heat Media Pack. Go to page 2: the Heat mission. Write three things that Heat offers its readers under 'print'.
-Fashion, life hacks and exclusive celebrity content

2) Now go to page 3 of the Media Pack - celebrity focus. What does the page say that Heat offers readers?
-Heat ensures readers with conversation-starters they can show off about to their mates down the pub, their journalists have the answers to the questions before they’ve even been asked and they help celebrities to talk about their biggest secrets and they find the funny, wherever it’s hiding.

3) Now look at page 4 of the Heat Media Pack. What other content does Heat magazine offer its readers aside from celebrity news?
-Heat readers are obsessed with their wardrobes and they rely on heat to provide them with the best, most beautiful and affordable edit of the high street and online’s hottest must-buys.

4) Look at page 5. What is Heat magazine's audience profile? Write all the key details of their audience here. 
- 90% female, average age is 37, 50% ABC1 and 57% married.

Media language

1) How are the cover lines written to make the audience want to buy the magazine?
-The coverlines use enigma codes to make the reader feel intrigued and eager to read on and find out what happens next.

2) What are the connotations of the Heat colour scheme on this particular front cover?
-The colour scheme is mainly bright pink, yellow and white which connote to femininity and friendliness also these are bright and bold to draw attention to the magazine.

3) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. paparazzi images or aspects of mise-en-scene such props, costume, make-up, body position, facial expression etc.)
-The Images of the celebrities are paparazzi shots in order to make the celebrities feel for relatable to the audience, 

4) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Heat? List at least three differences and explain the effect on audiences.
-Tatler mostly uses serif whereas Heat use mainly sans serif this is because serif is used to convey a serious tone whilst sans serif is used to convey a friendly tone.

Media Representations

1) What type of celebrities appear on the front cover of Heat? List them here. 
-Reality Tv stars or celebrities who have already finished their prime are usually the main focus of Heat.

2) How are celebrities represented in Heat? (Positively? Negatively? Reinforcing or challenging stereotypes?)
-The celebrities are represented in a non stereotypical way as they are portrayed as "regular people"
as paparazzi shots are used and they are being called out for scandals which subverts the expectation of celebrities being perfect beings.

3) How are women represented on the cover of Heat? Think about both images and cover lines here.
-Women's stereotypes are being somewhat subverted as the photographs are not professionally done and women's imperfections are shown.

4) How do Heat and Tatler represent social class? What different social classes can you find in the features and celebrities on the cover? (E.g. middle/upper class / working class)
-Heat is targeted towards middle and lower class as they use slang words like "baby daddy" and represent the higher class as "normal people" and/or problematic and scandalous. On the other hand , Tatler is targeted towards the high class and portrays them in a positive light .
