Industries: Ownership And Control

1) Facebook bought Instagram for 1 billion because Instagram was one of Facebook's competitors as they are in a very similar market therefor, Facebook would want to remove this competition.Instagram was at it's peak of popularity so the price would be it's maximum or close to the maximum that Instagram could be sold for so Instagram would be very interested in the amount of money. 2) A benefit of vertical integration for media companies is that it   gives companies the chance to make money at every stage of production. This means that they have complete ownership. 3) A benefit of horizontal integration for media companies is that it  allows companies to widen their audience and find other ways to make money and if they buy other companies it can lead to removing rivals in the same market. 4) Subsidiary is a company that is controlled by a holding company. 5) Three examples of media companies that use synergy to  maximise profit are Disney, Marvel and StarWars . 6) Ten compa

Audience Effects Theory

1) Passive audience is the view that audiences passively take in information from the media that these messages have the same effect on everyone. 2) Active audience  is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences interact with and make conscious decisions regarding the media they consume. 3) Hypodermic needle    is the suggestion that audiences are always  passive  and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds. This assumes no individual difference in audience members. 4) Information/Surveillance -  The Times newspaper >It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more. Personal Identity - Black Widow >It is a marvel film with a major female cast so females can feel represented. Diversion/Entertainment -  Spider man across the spider verse >It is a story that follows someone else with other worldly problems in a world that is different to our own so it can make the audience feel escap

Reception Theory

1)-The preferred reading is the meaning the producers are trying to communicate to the audience. 2)-The  oppositional reading  is when the audience's opinion goes against the meaning the producers are trying to communicate. 3)-The Harry Brown trailer wants the audience's preferred reading to be that the teenagers are violent and dangerous as they are gang affiliated, criminals and some of them murder. 4)-The oppositional reading of the Harry Brown trailer is that Harry is just as much as a criminal as the teenagers are .This could be the interpretation as in the trailer he is seen with a gun and he wants to take revenge. 150 word McDonalds avert analysis 5)- This McDonalds advert's preferred reading is that the burger is worth the money and fresh. The producers want the audience to  think this as they repeat the word "fresh" and "big"."Big"emphasises that the amount is large giving the impression that the burger is big especially for the price

Media Assessment Learner Response

Q.1-  1/1 Q.2-  1/1 Q.3-  9/12  Expand: dominant red colour where? Is that the main point?  Re-writing this question The advert is trying to convey that this perfume is rich and elegant. In this advert Beyonce is wearing a red dress which connotes to love, passion, elegance and sexuality. The camera angle is low and her facial expression is determined which both portray her as powerful and dominant. This is further emphasised by Beyonce's status as a celebrity.  The high-key lighting is mostly focused on Beyonce as the product is hers and draws the audience's attention to her.  This  advert has text that tells the audience that this product is made by Beyonce which could appeal to more materialistic people (possibly aspirers) as they want to feel as luxurious and elegant as Beyonce . Q.4-  2/2 I think this is one of my strongest questions because I was able to identify the connotations of  the advert. Q.5- 4/6 Really good effort: Now add more detail + specifics such as costume

Demographics And Psychographics

1) What information do media companies use to create a demographic profile of their audience? -Media companies use things that are fixed at that specific time for example age, gender, location, ethnicity and class.  2) Why are media companies and advertisers increasingly using audience profiling and not just demographics? -Media companies and advertisers use audience profiling and not just demographics  because they need to include consumers' hobbies and interests in marketing to make it more appealing to their target population. Also demographic profiling has a lot of restrictions as fixed characteristics can't be the only thing you're marketing for. 3)  What psychographic group or groups do you  belong in? Think about your own interests and lifestyle and explain your decision. Remember, you may fit into two or three different groups! -I think I belong in Mainstream and Aspirer. I believe this because everyone is mainstream so I am too and I think I'm aspirer because I

Camera Movement And Editing

Camera Movement -When John is caught by the police (1.44) there is a handheld shot used to portray his unease and stress to the audience and make them feel the same as him, empathising with his character.  -When the pace starts to get fast again (2.16) the camera is moving on a dolly which emphasises the action and the fact that its on a steady track makes it easy to understand all the actions/movements.  -At 2.52 the camera moves towards John giving the effect of a zoom to bring intensity to the scene .The producers also made the zoom quick/fast to enhance the effect of fast action being shown .  Shots And Camera Angles -A wide shot is used at 1.04 to show the setting and atmosphere of where this chase scene is taking place whilst also showing John running . -The shot 1.04 is also a birds eye view angle which is used along with a wide shot to give the audience part of the police's perspective whilst also showing how John is running away. The fact that John is very small and looked
