Mise-en-scene: Stranger Things Analysis
Setting
The clip starts in a laboratory which juxtaposes the later scenes in a regular suburban town. This is used to subvert the audiences expectations of the audience as the main characters are just young children. Also the setting is used towards the end of the clip as another subversion of the audience's expectations since will enters his house which gives a sense of safety however, he isn't safe as the monster doesn't use the laws and rules of this world.
Lighting
The lighting flickers in a few scenes which is used to intrigue the audience and is a sign that danger is near. The producer uses the light flicker to bring more low key lighting into different scenes which reinforces the horror and mystery genre that stranger things is.
Props
When the will runs into his house there are many props that should mean safety for example the lock , dog and phone however, the lock and phone are useless. The producers may have used this to convey to the audience that the monster has a lot of power making the audience more interested in this story and fearful for will's safety.
Extension

The hair and makeup gave the kids more grown-up hairstyles. For example, Will's bowl cut is shorter and more defined to show that he has matured, while Johnathan's hair is longer and scraggly to reflect his stoner lifestyle.
The main characters' homes (setting) in Hawkins are realistic and very lived-in. Mike's basement is drab and littered with era-specific toys and board games , Nancy's pastel room has a poster of Tom cruise on the wall and Eddie's bedroom is covered in 80's band posters and cassette tapes.
